As you review the material on this website/DVD, we envision you will take this to memory, spread your knowledge to others and put these techniques into practice in all that you do for the YMCA. Membership is everyone’s job!!

Building relationships is a vital component of our work, it’s our core. It’s the central theme that is woven into all of our programs. We challenge you to get to know the members and each other, which is a first step in building a sustaining relationship that is key to our success.

Be outgoing and curious with members. Don’t be shy. Get out there and get to know the members, ask them their names, let them know you are there to help them, and make an effort to introduce them to other members and staff.

Members expect things to go smoothly. The big test is what we do when things go wrong. If we are able to solve problems for members in an effective manner, they will have more faith and trust in our abilities. Look at problem solving as an opportunity to make a member happy.
